Chania
Chania is often called Western Crete, and Western Crete is popular for its birdwatching with the like of the Golden Eagle and its spring flowers in the mountains. As an island, Crete has many endemic species of plants and animals.
Chania town has an atmosphere of Venice and Florence with a harbour that has different looks different depending on the time of the day and the light that hits it. Crete’s only freshwater lake, Lake Kournas which is Crete’s only freshwater lake is 47 km from Chania City and has a perimeter of 3.5km.

The third largest city in Crete but it never realy feels like a city, like Chania and Heraklion does as it has more of a slower place which is beautiful in appearence and a wash of timeless attractions.
Rethymno has alot of Venetian influences with a fortress (The Fortezza) built in 1573 that dominates the city but also has endless sandy beaches, museums, city architecture, and archaeological sites.
Rethymno’s harbour area is a great place to stroll olong to the venetian lighthouse, get a coffee, eat and to browse in both modern and old shops.
Heraklion
Heraklion
Heraklion is the largest city in Crete which has undergone alot of re-development in recent years. This includes the waterfront, roads, and central pedestrian walking strips in the historic centre.
The most visited attraction in Crete must be the Palace of Knossos, A story of Minoan cilvilisation, this has been well restored by Arthur Evans this is only 25 minutes from the centre of Heraklion. One of the best known streets for finding direction in Heraklion is the 25th August Street which is now paved and boasts the most beautiful Neoclassical buildings in Heraklion.

In the eastern most region of Crete, Lasithi is made up of of Municipalities, Ierapetra, Oropedio Lasithiou, Siteia and the capital Agios Nikolaos.
The prefecture is well known for its Palm Tree Forest at Vai beach with over 5000 palm trees in an area of 250 km² making it the largest in Europe. Elounda Bay with its amazing landscapes and views of Spinalonga and some of the best award winning beaches in Sissi like Boufos with amazing clear waters.
